This is where I put information about sea ice leads, like an encyclopedia for leads, based on my work as well as the efforts made by many others.
Sea ice leads, according to the WMO sea-ice nomenclature and existing references, refer to any fracture or passageway through sea ice that is navigable by surface vessels. Besides regular sea ice leads, there are also “shore lead“, which is a lead between drift ice and the shore or between drift ice and an ice front, and “flaw lead“, which is a passageway between drift ice and fast ice.
